In response to resident concerns about the nearby Quantum Frederick data-center campus (built on the former Alcoa Eastalco smelting site), the Frederick County Health Department tested 10 private wells in Adamstown in 2026. Preliminary results found coliform bacteria in 8 of the 10 wells, E. coli in 2, and PFAS in 6, though officials said the absence of fluoride in the samples suggests the findings are not linked to the former industrial site and instead resemble contamination typically seen near farms, septic systems, and rural land use. No confirmed link to data-center activity or formal SDWA violation has been established; testing was ongoing at last report.
